Chaoplay toys originated from art toys and designer toys, which are different from the functionality of traditional toys. Chaoplay toys have a strong sense of design, art and beauty as a whole, and are suitable for users to appreciate, display and collect。
There is no clear definition of Chaoyu toys. In general, the categories of Chaoyu toys include: blind box, handmade toys, art toys, BJD toys, assembled toys, GK handmade toys, etc.
Although there is the word "toy", it is significantly different from traditional toys in terms of audience groups and functions. The audience of trendy toys is more young trendy people, while the traditional toys are targeted at children and teenagers. In terms of function, the function of trendy toys is far lower than that of traditional toys, and they basically have no playability. They are closer to static art or ornaments, and emphasize aesthetic attributes and collection value.
There are many kinds of fashionable toys. Here we mainly introduce the evolution history of blind boxes, handmade toys and art toys.
Blind box:
The development of blind boxes can be traced back to the United States in 1920. With the widespread use of vending machines, businesses tried to use plastic cases to package and put them in the machine for sale.
After this model entered Japan, it was modified into a capsule toy, and its nickname was also changed to "twist an egg" or "turn an egg". In 1980, the Japanese twist manufacturer represented by Haiyang Hall used this form to sell animation IP handmade, toy models, and jewelry pendants.
In 1990, there was a similar "card marketing" in China. For example, the various hero cards in the face of small heads and holy fighters can also be regarded as a localization phenomenon of the concept of "blind box".
Since 2016, China Chaoplay Toys has started to use the localized form for the sales of its products. Through cooperation with toy designers, we have designed artistic and popular small dolls, expanded the consumption scene of blind boxes through shopping malls and online shopping, and driven the "blind box" craze in China.
Handicraft: originated in Japan and entered China from the anime culture
In a narrow sense, hand-run originated in Japan and was derived from early cartoon characters. With the rapid development of Japan's economy after the war in 1960, SanMaru Store launched the first modern animation model doll "Iron Man 28" in Japanese history. With the rapid development of the animation industry, the types of models are more and more abundant, and the market is broader.
With the popularity of video game consoles and PCs, Japan's "otaku clan" was born in 1980. Young players were no longer satisfied with simple consumer goods, but turned their attention to self-created goods. Some companies that manufacture plastic models have also begun to abandon or reduce the traditional mass production of plastic technology, and turned to research and create handmade models, and Ocean Hall is one of them.
Different from the definition of the Japanese counterpart office, the Chinese market calls all ACG character form finished products as the hand office, which includes the traditional GK, PVC human shape, twisted egg, food and play, clay and landscape products hand office.
Artistic toys: trends originating from Hong Kong
The concept of art toys originated in Hong Kong, which is also the gathering place of art toy designers. In 1999, Hong Kong designer Michael Lau (Liu Migao) used 12-inch full-body movable doll toys to create art works for the first time, and held a theme design exhibition, which set off a wave of enamel doll craze in Hong Kong, and was also known as the pioneer of art toys.
Art toys generally do not have quantitative production. They are usually created in studio units, and the unit price is relatively expensive. Some art designers signed commercial contracts with commercial fashion companies to design doll images for them.
Blind boxes can also be understood as art toys that are cheap and mass produced.
